Place of birth: -

Team 2007-08: Fiji Women National Team (2007 South Pacific Games)

Career: Fiji Men National Team (2006 FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament)

Mike Whippy, a former international player, coached Fiji’s men at the 2006 FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament and made his terrific debut coaching with the women last year at the South Pacific Games by leading the Fijians to the gold medal.
While Fiji are huge underdogs going into the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Whippy says the experience is just what his team needs. “The more international competition we get, the quicker we will develop in this game,” he said. “Playing against American and European teams will help us achieve this." Whippy’s daughters, 22-year-old Micaelar and 17-year-old Letava, play a major role in the National Team. Mike Whippy first coached internationally at the 1999 South Pacific Games where he served as an assistant on the men’s team.
