Career: .Fujitsu Red Wave (WJBL-1, 2001-08)

Mayumi Funabiki is one of Japan’s best shooting guards. She was a great contributor to Fujitsu Big Wave’s first WJBL championship last year. While it may seem odd that this 29-year-old veteran has only this summer been selected as a National Team member for the first time, the exposure received by winning her first trophy with her all-time club clearly had something to do with this late recognition. Mayumi is a very good leaper who runs well on the fast-break and gets most of her points on drives to the basket. Though she is not very tall for her position, Mayumi often beats opponents to loose balls and is a terrific rebounding guard.
