Career: La Habana (Cuba-D1, 2005-06), Dynamo Moscow (Russia-A Superleague, 2005-06), Santiago De Cuba (Cuba-D1, 2006-07).
Gelis Gonzalez is expected to be in the starting backcourt of the Cuban side that will attempt to qualify for the Beijing Games. Extremely quick, Gelis has been around. She made an impact at the 2004 FIBA Women's World League, averaging 10.6 points per game for Club Habana. Gelis has not turned into a dominating figure in the National Team set-up but Zabala clearly thinks that she has something to offer after playing a lot of minutes at last year's FIBA Americas Championship in Chile, where she averaged eight points and 3.4 rebounds. Gelis was clearly not at her best at the 2008 Beijing Basketball Test Event with Zabala electing not to play her in the last two games.
